• The word ikat means to bind. It is a very ancient way of creating designs in fabric by resist-dyeing the threads before the fabric is woven.
• In Uzbekistan, villagers especially in Ferghana Valley take the weft (crosswise filling threads) and tie tiny bits of plastic onto the threads. The tightly tied areas of thread, when put into the dye pot, resist the color and create a pattern, once the plastic ties are removed.
• Traditional Uzbek ikat cottons are often dyed in lively and engaging motifs representing the village life and beliefs of the people.
• Ikats are often symbols of status, wealth, power and prestige. Modern Uzbek adras ikats in cotton and silk are brightly colored with good imported natural dyes.

The Use of ikat fabric in the World

• Men's amd women's robes, other garments, and headwear, curtains, bedspreads, blankets, smaller mats, quilts and pillows, upholstery for chairs.

• Our price is based on per meter basis. 1 meter = 1.09 yards 
• Please keep in mind when buying 10 pieces you are actually placing an order for 10 meters of fabric. We will ship 10 meters not 10 precut pieces.  

Colors / Washing

• We use natural (vegetable) dyes to dye the sik/cotton yarns.  Most of the dyes used to dye silk yarns are natural. In order to produce some of the vivid colors we have to use synthetic but we use high quality synthetic dyes which do not fade after washing.
• Fabrics can be washed and we recommend using cold water to wash the fabric. Dry wash is also recommended.
